- Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): A Preferred Provider Organization is an organization of medical doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers that offers a subscription-based medical care arrangement. Membership with a select network of professionals provides substantially discounted rates.
- Health Savings Account (HSA): A Health Savings Account is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to taxpayers in the United States who are enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
- The funds contributed to the account are not subject to federal income tax at the time of deposit. Unlike a flexible spending account (FSA), funds roll over and accumulate year-to-year if they are not spent.
- HSAs are owned by the individual, differentiating them from a company-owned Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA), which is an alternate tax-deductible source of funds paired with HDHPs.
- HSA funds currently may be used to pay for qualified medical expenses at any time without federal tax liability or penalty.
- Short-Term Plans: A short-term insurance policy covers a lapse in insurance coverage when you are between jobs. This option protects against unexpected healthcare expenses and is often a lower-cost alternative to COBRA.
